A Letter to Angel

Dear Angel:

I just want you to know how I feel about you, as if you already don’t, because I sit and stare at your picture all of the time. You are beautiful on the inside and out, like they say. Respectable, hard-working, honorable, and probably the sexiest white man I’ve ever known. See I can’t decide if I should put you before or after Jon B. But I have to say that you have the sexiest-looking dredlocks I’ve ever seen on a man of your persuasion. I mean I’ve seen white boys with dreds before, I’ve seen a few, but they were all grungey-looking, and probably even lice-infested. But yours . . .yours are beautiful and lustrous. "A spillage of rope-like hair" that goes all the way down to that strong-looking back, right above that strong-looking ass. And I don’t usually use the word "ass", but what other word is there to describe that backside? And man that chest . . . sigh. And those arms . . . sigh again. Your body is thick, and there’s nothing artificial or overdone about your muscles.

You were able to convert a White girl who "wouldn’t go back across the Color Line even if there was a helpless White dude lying on it bleeding to death". Because you got it going on like that. And how many other guys your age, or maybe even any age, will wait on his lady to decide when SHE'S ready to go all the way? How many other guys will walk around with a steel rod in his pants, suffering from the pain of "not getting any", all out of love and respect for his woman? None other than a real man like you, Angel.

Right now you exist on a sheet of drawing paper as a penciled sketch. You have sleek, Egyptian eyebrows and the kind of eyes a woman wants to look into while she’s making love. Your facial hair is neat and intricately-trimmed, like that of a Spanish Moor. One day I’ll make it so that everybody who comes here will be able to see your beautiful face.

Right now and forever, you exist in my mind as a beautiful, sensual, patient young man. It's true you're not perfect, but you are kind and apologetic.

Angel you are every girl's fantasy, a Black Girl Dream.

Love,

Yours truly . . .
